Higher-Capacity External Storage from US Modular and I/OMagic
12GB in Your Hand or Three-Quarters of a Terabyte on Your Desktop
I/O Magic Corp. has bolstered its line of 3.5-inch external hard drives with the GigaBank 750GB, a high-capacity storage solution that connects to a PC or Mac via a USB 2.0 cable for data transfers at up to 480Mb/sec (USB 1.1 ports are supported at slower speeds). The aluminum-oval-cased drive will ship soon for $500 including an external power adapter.
No power cord is required for US Modular's 12GB Monstor Drive, a USB 2.0 peripheral that fits in the palm of a hand. The half-ounce, 4,200-rpm drive features a 1,500G shock resistance rating (non-operating) and 3.3MB/sec to 6.5MB/sec transfer rate. It'll ship in November for $129.
